On Writing *

(screw you, AP Lang! I'm an A-student at heart.)
Note: This blog title has no affiliation with that so-tiresome-to-read book by Eudora Welty.

Upon reading some of your dismal blogs (okay, they're not dismal. And I haven't actually seen many of your blogs), I've decided to let loose my thoughts on what makes
A GOOD BLOG POST

Ingredients:
1 minute of your time
1 penny for your thoughts
A dash of tartness
Mix well and pour it out across the blank canvas that is the screen.

1. A post, like a book, needs a title. This title can be composed of characters or images, and doesn't even have to be real words. I prefer titles that aren't 6-point webdings in gray, because 6-point anything in anything is unreadable. The question here: Should the post title summarize the post?

It may, but give it a twist.

2. Brace yourselves:
Grammar and spelling. Syntax and diction. Rhyme and reason. I don't like reading posts that are "omG mai bFF 4lyF jus ditchd meee, u knoe tht DIPsHIT", I'M GETTING A SEIZURE HERE (Patrick's brother should read this). I would prefer the musings of Shakespeare, whose grammar I actually hate.

3. Content. Examples of a bad post:

"Yeah. It's 8:48. I'm eating my sandwich. Kinda bored.
...
Okay, its almost 9. Done with the sandwich, show should start soon. bbl.
...
Show sucked. Think I'll go to bed now.
Nothing happened today, dunno why i'm even writing this."

Thanks, I'll go read my cosmo now.
Writing is for the reader (this is why I sometimes just don't write for a week, if there's really nothing I can stand having you read), just as living is to present yourselves to others.

Michael Chen and I agreed about something every lvl60+ blogger should know how to do--
Write enough to get your point across, but leave something to the reader's imagination. Write in a voice that beckons the reader's curiosity-- reveal something that in the end, after much consideration, reveals nothing.

Don't forget all the other little gems that can be fit into a post.
But those will reflect your own personal skill.
Use your literary prowess!

* No, I don't follow all of these rules all the time..yeesh.
